Sumathi Valavu is a 2025 Indian Malayalam-language horror comedy film directed by Vishnu Sasi Shankar and written by Abhilash Pillai.
Sumathi Valavu isn’t your typical horror story. It’s a cleverly layered Malayalam horror-comedy that digs its claws deep into local urban legend. Set in the eerie ambiance of Mylamoodu, near Thiruvananthapuram, the film draws inspiration from real-life tales of a supposedly haunted road bend, the very “Valavu” (curve) where a tragic murder occurred in the 1950s.
The legend? A woman named Sumathi, pregnant and betrayed, was killed by her lover Ratnakaran and his accomplice. The road where this brutal act unfolded was never the same again. Sightings of a ghostly woman, unexplained accidents, headlights going dark these stories turned Sumathi Valavu into Kerala’s own mini urban myth.

Plot
The film follows a group of characters from thrill-seeking YouTubers to skeptical locals who set out to explore the haunted spot. What starts as a joke quickly spirals into a nightmarish series of events. But in true Malayalam cinema fashion, humor and horror are masterfully interwoven, giving the audience jump scares one moment and belly laughs the next.
