Tyler Perry is an American filmmaker, playwright, actor, and entrepreneur best known for creating the iconic character Madea, a tough-talking grandmother who became the centerpiece of his wildly successful stage plays and films. Born on September 13, 1969, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Perry overcame a difficult childhood marked by abuse and poverty. He began his career in theater before transitioning to film with Diary of a Mad Black Woman (2005), which launched the Madea franchise.
