The Life Of Odira Nwobu, Family, Wife, Children, Death & Legacy

Odira Nwobu was born on 24 May 1982 in Enugu, Nigeria, but his ancestral roots trace back to Umubelle Village, Awka South Local Government Area in Anambra State. He was of Igbo ethnicity, and though much about his early schooling is not widely documented, he completed his secondary education in Enugu. From a young age, his flair for performance and comedy showed itself, eventually driving him toward a career in Nollywood and social media content.

Early Life, origin and family

Odira grew up in a close-knit home: he was among several siblings (reports mention he was the third of five children). His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nwobu, raised the children in Enugu, while maintaining strong ties to their ancestral home in Anambra. The family’s Igbo cultural background and communal spirit played a large role in shaping Odira’s worldview, humor, and storytelling.

Wife, marriage and children


In his adult life, Odira Nwobu was married twice. His first traditional wedding was with Chinenye Nwobu on 4 May 2021, but the marriage reportedly ended due to incompatibility. He later married Giftee (Gifty) Nwobu, his longtime partner, with whom he welcomed a daughter named Christabel Amarachi Nwobu on 7 December 2023.

Death and Legacy

Tragically, Odira Nwobu passed away on 24 November 2025 in South Africa, during what was described as a work trip. His manager confirmed that he had been dealing with high blood pressure, which is being reported as a likely factor in his sudden death. Earlier that year, in June 2025, he had survived a very serious car accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway a near-death experience that had deeply impacted him and his fans. In the wake of his death, the Nollywood community and his followers mourned deeply, paying tribute to his warmth, comedic genius, and the joy he brought to so many. His legacy lives on in his films, skits, and the digital content that endeared him to a wide audience.
